Roll #39 – JCH Street Pan 400

JCH Street Pan 400 (35mm)

Usually I don’t buy film that expensive, but being able to give a discontinued film a second chance is an opportunity you don’t often get. Lets hope enough people showed their support, so production can become permanent and distribution is organized more locally – after all the film went from Belgium to Japan (to be blessed by a balding photography priest) and back again to Germany. Crazy!

I’m not sure if a film somewhat aimed at street photographer is suited for shooting in rural Germany, but who cares. The film was inside the camera, the camera was with me and I was visiting my brother in a very small village. But where else do can see storks?

Praktica LTL 2 (1975 – 1978) + Helios-44-2 f2/58mm lens (M42 mount)

Development was very fast, since the lab was very hot. I need to figure out a way to cool down developer – even the water straight out of the cold water tap was lukewarm at best.

Roll #38 – Foma Retropan 320 Soft

Foma Retropan 320 Soft (35mm)

Now that the HGB workshop driving the Memories project is over (will take a while to sequence the book), I decided to try to finish “The 52 rolls of 2015”… in 2016. So that’s 14 more rolls until the end of the year in 5 months – almost one per week again.

Let’s start with Foma Retropan 320, which I got for free on top of another film purchase. I’m not sure yet whether I like it, or not. It certainly has a special old school high grain / high contrast look.

I messed up the development for a second, but luckily was able to recover with the help of Jens, who runs the Mühlstraße e.V. community darkroom and is a fountain of knowledge. Thanks Jens!

Roll #37 – Adox Color Implosion 100

Adox Color Implosion 100 (35mm Format)

While testing the film/camera combination for my Memories book project, I attended a district expedition in Leipzigs biggest district “Grünau”. There’s a lot of old socialist architecture (faceless concrete everywhere), but lately a lot of green was added.

The expedition featured a pseudo-scientific logbook with a map and tasks, which were quite engaging to complete.

I used to live near there as a child, so it was interesting / strange to return as an adult. The film used is advertised as “surreal color film”, so it fit my mood quite well. The strange border on two of the photos is the film ripping in half, when I tried to rewind it, making the only camera I brought unusuable after the first roll of film.
